About the Item
A French pair of raised side chests with leather book designed fronts, from the early 20th century. These antique side chests from France each feature beautiful book-matched veneer tops over a case which houses a single drawer over a pair of doors fronted with a "run of books"; a run of 10 leather bound books, neatly displayed and adorning the cabinet door fronts (5 books on each door), which open to reveal storage within. The book ends are embossed leather-bound and spines show them as a French collection of "Histore Ancienne" reads. The chests are presented on four squared and tapering legs, with lovely inlays embellishing them down to their metal feet. Note that there are some minor wood losses, mostly at the inner drawers and along a veneered edge (see images for further detail). This early 20th century pair of French small-sized chests, with their whimsical leather-bound book fronts, would be perfect little nightstands at bedside, or perhaps end-tables for a seating group within a study.
