About the Item

These glossy and sophisticated side chests exemplify Hungarian Art Deco design. Inspired equally by French Art Deco and Bauhaus design, these chests utilize local materials and industrial manufacturing techniques. The legs are solid walnut wood, and they splay out as they reach the floor. The square, unadorned case is walnut veneer, stained a dark brown with a reddish undertone. The finish is a highly polished modern lacquer. The drawer fronts are burled walnut with a very light stain to better show the beauty of the wood grain. The pieces have been fully restored and re-lacquered. The drawers are spacious and operate smoothly. Hungarian furniture makers thrived during the interwar years (1925-40) and became distinguished interpreters of the international style. The chests are highly versatile and equally suited flanking an entryway or a bed.
