About the Item

A rare and impressive American Shaker Child's Rocking Chair, circa last quarter 19th Century. This beautiful example comes from Shakers in Mt. Lebanon New York. The Mount Lebanon Shaker Society was the most important Shaker site in America. Their first meeting house opened in 1785. This beautiful example is made from maple with acorn shaped finials over a woven back and seat. The arms are mushroom capped over a vase shaped turning leading to lower spindled stretchers and rockers. Original makers mark along the back inner support of the chair.
