About the Item

19th century Spanish Colonial shrine for a Santos or statue of the Virgin Mary in the form of a church likely from New Mexico. Topped with three crosses with traces of gilding, two cupolas housing two gilt wood bells each, a silver gilt dove in center representing the Holy Spirit. The sides with two arched windows each, the interior with a central plinth for a carved Santos or Madonna, two lower plinths on either side for angels or other Santos, painted black with stars in the background. Lovely carved details throughout including turned finials on the roof. Clearly created with reverence and care by a master carver, this will make a great home for that treasured carving, a personal shrine, or a wonderful architectural conversation piece. Great scale at almost 4 feet tall. 46 inches high 26 wide 12 deep.
