About the Item

A rare and beautifully preserved 15th-century German crossbow, created as a true weapon of war or defense,.This piece is a remarkable survival from the Gothic period, with all of its components entirely original and untouched- no restorations, no replacements, and nothing altered. It has an incredible deer antler inlay and made out of fruitwood. The crossbow features a powerful steel bow, secured with period-correct cord bindings, retaining its original bowstring, and two well-preserved red wool pom-poms. The wooden tiller is richly decorated, with original bone inlay still intact set into the sides and top, showcasing Gothic-era craftsmanship and visual refinement. The tiller swells toward the center and is hollowed at the cheek-piece, consistent with high-end crossbows intended for serious use. Also included is the original iron cranequin (mechanical spanning device), complete with its gear box, winding handle, and original tensioning cord- again, all elements untouched and historically consistent. The metal shows an even, natural patina without signs of cleaning, sanding, or modern work. This piece is not marked, which is typical for early examples of this kind, and adds to its authenticity as a functional 15th-century weapon rather than a later showpiece. Provenance: From the distinguished collection of Dr. Guserl (Austria), a renowned European collector specialising in Gothic and Renaissance arms and armour. This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a true Gothic-period crossbow weapon, complete, unrestored, and of collector-grade quality- suitable for the finest private or institutional arms collections. This crossbow was possibly custom made for an individual of high social standing at the time.

Antique German 15th- 16th Century Infantry Armour with Bascinet, Sword Halberd
Located in Doha, QA
This extraordinary and remarkably well-preserved ensemble represents a complete set of late medieval German infantry armour, dating from the 15th to early 16th century. Forged entirely from high-quality steel plates and joined with traditional leather straps for proper articulation and fit, the armour embodies the superb craftsmanship and engineering of the German armourers of the period. The helmet is a finely made European bascinet, the classic combat helmet of the era. It features a gracefully pointed visor and hinged cheek plates, designed to provide both excellent facial protection and freedom of movement, while allowing sufficient ventilation and audibility during combat. The bascinet retains its original character and displays the subtle fluted detailing that became a hallmark of German armour-making in the transitional phase from the Gothic to the early Renaissance styles. The suit is mounted on an antique wooden mannequin stand measuring 175 cm in height and includes its original linen undergarment and chainmail shirt...
