About the Item

Erotic carved horn kris hilt, Bali early 20th century. A kris is a ceremonial short bladed weapon known for elaborately-carved handles. This example shows an erotic scene, with the forms of the bodies in the shape of a handle that is easy to grip. A man kneels in front of a standing woman, sucking on her breast as he grips her leg from behind. On a custom plexiglass stand. Size: 4.5 inches high by 2 deep by 1.5 wide With base 7 high by 3 wide by 3 deep The kris is both a weapon and a spiritual object. The oldest known are from the 10th century CE; they are thought to have originated on the island of Java. Kris can be worn every day and/or in special ceremonies; both men and women wear them. They are passed down through families. In the past, they have been used for display, as talismans with magical powers, as weapons, as heirlooms, as accessories for ceremonial dress, and indicators of social status.
