About the Item

Authentic 74 year old WWII B-17 flying fortress B-24 liberators cockpit instrument panel gauges Three gauges on a custom-made metal museum stand. PDI gauges, (see description below) Two very rare L R gauges (left engine, right engine) The planes had four engines. Each gauge was for two engines. The center gauge is the PDI which was a very top secret instrument during WWII. These gauges are from B-17 B-24 WWII heavy bombers that were flown used during WWII. Brave Americans flew the planes in many combat missions in the war for Europe After the war ended in 1945, the planes were sent from all points from around the world to be scrapped here in the United States. The only items removed from the thousands of planes before being cut up and melted into blocks of aluminum were the propellers and the gauges. About 99.99% of the gauges were buried deep in remote parts of the desert. Only a few of the gauges were saved and are now offered for sale until they are gone forever. The gauges have not been restored; they are in their as found condition. If you prefer to clean and polish them, it’s up to you. The gauges are displayed on a metal museum stand specifically made for these unique pieces of World War-II history. Authentic WWII B-17 B-24 bomber gauge This was a top secret bomber PDI gauge from WWII PDI-Pilot deviation indicator This is a original authentic WWII cockpit instrument panel gauge as used in the Boeing B-17 flying fortress B-24 liberators during WWII. PDI stands for Pilot deviation indicator. The PDI was used by the pilot, co-pilot and bombardier to navigate to the bomb drop target through the Nordon Bomb Sight. It was used in conjunction with the planes autopilot, which in most cases did not work properly or failed. The plane indicator must be held on the “O” to stay on target.
