About the Item
One of the most important works on rural sports of its time, written by William Barker Daniel, and in a decorative half morocco binding.
Volume I-III slightly later editions. The first edition of the 'supplement'.
Illustrated with eighteen monochrome engraved plates, including folding plates, to 'Volume I', collated, lacking plate facing pp. 397. Nineteen to 'Volume II'. Collated, complete. Twenty-four to 'Volume III'. Collated, lacking plates facing pp. 104, 135, 175, 188, 225, and 438. Volume III also lacking pages 181-194. Frontispiece and four plates, including one colour plate, to the supplement. Collated, complete.
Bound in fantastic half morocco with raised bands and tooled gilt details, including gilt foxes, to the spines, and marbled paper to the boards.
Written by William Barker Daniel, a cleric and expert on field sports. This work was an instant hit with the sportsmen at the turn of the nineteenth century. It is a compilation of other sporting works, alongside original writing. There are chapters on shooting, coursing, hunting, animal care and many more.

Bound in half morocco with marbled paper to the boards. Externally excellent with only minimal fading to the spines and very light rubbing to the extremities. Small bookseller's label to the front pastedown to volume one. Internally firmly bound with occasional age toning, and occasional light spotting, heavier to the fronts and rears.
