A complete three-volume second edition of Cooper’s popular Revolutionary War novel, inspired by John Jay’s espionage experiences in Westchester’s “Neutral Ground”.
In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards.

Complete in three volumes.
A historical novel set during the American War of Independence, centred on espionage and divided loyalties in the contested “Neutral Ground” of Westchester County, New York, inspired by a tale told to Cooper by his family friend John Jay, drawn from Jay’s own experience as a spymaster in the region.
James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was one of the earliest major American novelists and a key figure in the development of a distinct American literary tradition. The Spy was his first major commercial success and helped establish his international reputation.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing to boards. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two very minor handling marks to boards and spines. Faint traces of a pencil inscription to the front paste down and front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting to first and last few leaves and the odd spot to fore edges.
