A beautifully bound collection of works by James Anthony Froude, including his extensive history of England, bound in a uniform half calf signed binding by Mudie. A beautifully bound set of works from James Anthony Froude, bound by Mudie in contemporary half calf with gilt tooling to the spine, with their binder's stamp to the front blanks. A nineteen volume set, featuring the complete twelve volume set of 'The History of England From The Fall of Wolsey to the Defeat of the Spanish Armada', a complete three volume set of 'The English in Ireland in the Eighteenth Century', and the complete four volume set of 'Short Studies on Great Subjects'. James Anthony Froude was an English historian, novelist and biographer who is best known for his renowned historical work 'The History of England', which is included in this set. 'The History of England' is a detailed historical work focusing on figures such as Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, defending the English reformation. The set also includes 'English in Ireland', in which he favours Protestantism and the British control in Ireland, and his 'Short Studies In Great Subjects', which feature a collection of essays on various topics, including a biography on Thomas Becket. All new editions, with 'History of England' undated. Dated by copies held institutionally. Condition Bound in contemporary half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and joints, and slight marks to the boards. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with only the odd spot to the front and rear, and offsetting to the blanks. Overall: Near Fine

A superb set of mostly first editions of the novels of R. D. Blackmore, a nice set uncommon to see of the late Victorian's writings. Fourteen works by R. D. Blackmore in thirty-five volumes. Very scarce to see Blackmore's works in a set. Smartly bound in a half morocco binding by W. J. Mansell. This smart set includes almost the complete works of Blackmore. Blackmore was one of the most famous novelists of the second half of the nineteenth century, best remember today for his 'Lorna Doone'.
