About the Item
A finely bound second impression copy of one of the most important and popular novels of the twentieth century by E. M. Forster.

'A Passage to India' explores the racial tensions and prejudices between the Indians and the British during the colonial era, following the trial of a young Indian Muslim physician who is accused of raping a young English schoolmistress.
Written by E. M. Forster. This is one of his best known works, considered to be one of the best novels of the twentieth century. In 1924, this novel won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
Forster was inspired to write this novel after a visit to India in 1912-13, and after a time spent as private secretary to the Maharaja of Dewas Senior, Tukojirao III, in 1921-22.
Three pages of adverts to the rear.
