Antoine Caron: Peintre des fetes et des massacres by Jean Ehrmann. Published by Flammarion, 1986. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket, French text. In b&w and color. Important book on the work of Antoine Caron (1521? -1599), he was a painter, draftsman, engraver, painter of the court of Henri II and Catherine de Médicis. In 1561 he was appointed painter for the court. The scholar Jean Ehrmann who is the specialist of the artist, "delivers the results of more than thirty years of research. After having placed the artist in the international current of mannerism he, he analyzes, both from the iconographic and the stylistic point of view. each of the paintings highlights Caron's work as a portrait painter and as an painter of pictures intended to be used as engraving." 252 reproductions; a chronology and index; list of exhibitions and bibliography.
