The Barbizon School of Painters: Corot by David C. Thomson. London: Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent
Co, 1892. First Edition Thus. Inscribed by the author to Thomas J. Barratt. Barratt was the Historian of Hampstead, author of the 3 volume 1912 'Annuls of Hampstead'. Chairman in Pears, the soap manufacturers. Referred to as "the father of modern advertising" he was responsible for using the Bubbles picture in a Pears advertising campaign. 104 pp. Hardcover. Small Corot illustration on the front cover. 50 illustrations, including five full-page sepia etchings on unbacked frameable heavy stock. Corot was a French landscape painter and printmaker and leading painter of the Barbizon School of France in the mid-19th century and a pivotal figure in plein-air innovations of Impressionism.
