About the Item

Behind the Blue Door By: John Demsey Written by Alina Cho Photography by Douglas Friedman The decor of entrepreneur John Demsey’s six-story townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, an explosion of color, pattern, and art The muted, understated exterior of the townhouse on a tree-lined New York City street belies the sumptuous feast for the eyes that hits you upon opening its blue front door. Every room of its five main floors has its own saturated color scheme, David Hicks–inspired geometrically patterned rug, vibrant fabrics, new and vintage furniture, art and photographs covering walls, and sculptures and decorative objects topping tables and filling shelves. For the owner, John Demsey, the starting point was a pair of multicolored Louboutin boots, which inspired the palette of the living room rug. Working with interior designer and friend Bibi Monnahan, he carefully chose and positioned each piece of furniture, work of art, and decorative object, and mounted his enormous photography collection. The result is a tour de force of maximalist design, now captured for all to see in Douglas Friedman’s luminous photographs and with journalist Alina Cho as our eyewitness guide. Palm Beach Living Book by Jennifer Ash Rudick
By Jennifer Ash
Located in New York, NY
Palm Beach Living By: Jennifer Ash Rudick Photography by Nick Mele Explore the pleasures of life in the homes and gardens of the legendary tropical island of Palm Beach Could it be the subtropical climate and seaside breezes that have drawn multiple generations to Palm Beach for more than a century? Or does its timeless appeal lie in its unique mixture of charming bungalows, sleek minimalist houses, chic apartments, and iconic Mediterranean Revival residences by such legendary architects as Maurice Fatio and John Volk? Though the nation’s most exclusive barrier island is perennially thronged with visitors, few have seen the private homes and gardens showcased in Palm Beach Living. Some of the homes incorporate the exuberant colors of the island’s tropical flora; others opt for a soothing, more neutral palette to contrast with the surrounding landscape. All embrace indoor/outdoor living, and each reflects the singular aesthetic of the owner, realized with the help of renowned architects, including Fairfax & Sammons, Chris Stone and David Fox, Daniel Kahan, and Jeffrey W. Smith; superb landscape architects such as Mario Nievera, Jorge Sánchez...

Finding Home: The Houses of Pursley Dixon, by Ken Pursley
Located in valatie, NY
Finding Home: The Houses of Pursley Dixon, by Ken Pursley. Published by Rizzoli International Publications, New York, 2021. Hardcover with dust jacket. Founded on the simple principle “Build beautiful things,” the architectural team of Pursley Dixon, like populist architects Bobby McAlpine and Jeff Dungan, is known for blending elements of tradition with a modern lifestyle. In Finding Home, they share 15 stunning houses in three distinct styles: rustic mountain escapes, dreamy retreats by the water, and elegant houses in town. Each house has its own thoughtful visual narrative, but all are connected on an innate and authentic level by their sense of proportion, attention to detail, and a marvelous affinity with nature, displayed in their soothing neutral palettes, oversize windows that bring the outdoors in, and natural materials such as rough-hewn stone and unfinished wood. Little touches of humanity await discovery, such as a sleeping nook perched right out into the highest branches of a tree. These eccentricities and secrets add to the distinctly Southern sense of warmth and refuge these homes provide, homes whose open interiors and majestic porches easily accommodate family and gatherings. Featuring their own interior design work as well as that of acclaimed decorators such as Suzanne Kasler, Phoebe Howard, and Circa Interiors...
