About the Item
Between Seer and Seen: Celebrating the Artists of Santa Barbara County
Book by Mark Robert Halper.
Composed of 71 portraits and 15 still life images photographed from January to December or 2012, this collection of portraits provides an intimate view into the artist on their home ground. Captured in honest moments, Mr. Halper s visual insight offers the chance at a deeper understanding of the artistic temperament. In their transformation from the creators of art, to portrait subjects, the seers, who make the art and are the subjects of my portraiture, become the seen. The concept of seer and seen embodies the notion that the interpretation of art is largely about perspective. Barry Spacks, artist and the first Poet Laureate of Santa Barbara, wrote the introduction to this meditation on the visual artists of our time.
This is a beautiful large hardcover coffee table book.
About the Author
For over two decades, Mark Robert Halper has photographed celebrities and captains of industry for clients that include advertising agencies, national magazines, and Fortune 500 companies. Randy Jackson, Lauren Hutton, David Boreanaz, Bill Gates, Gene Simmons, Tori Spelling, James Marsters, Ben Stein, Adrianne Palicki, Frank Gehry, Sumner Redstone, and Mr. T are just a few of the personalities that have been photographed for publication by Mr. Halper. In 2008, Mr. Halper created Halper Fine Art, which has become the portrait studio of choice for discerning families throughout the country. Already well known within the photographic community, 2009 s Sunlight and Water brought Mr. Halper s work into the public eye with feature articles in publications that included Santa Barbara Magazine, the Santa Barbara Independent, and the Santa Barbara News-Press. The 2013 releases of Between Seer and Seen and Legacy represent the continuing evolution of that artistry.

Leopold, A. Starker; Dasmann, Raymond F. (editor), Illustrated by Tupper Ansel Blake
Science · Hardcover · Non-fiction · 144 pages.
This is a stunning photographic guide to the six major California regions--from the Sierra Nevada to the desert--and their wildlife. In a highly readable style that mingles authority and eloquence, Leopold reminds us of the aesthetic, educational, and scientific values of undeveloped land.
Oversized Wraps. Very Good +. First Edition, First Printing. Inscribed By The Illustrator. ISBN:0-520-06024-5. A wonderful photography book on the wildlife of California. Beautiful color photographs by Tupper Ansel Blake! This copy has a great inscription from Blake to singer/songwriter, Linda Ronstadt. A great association copy linking the photographer to Ronstadt, a famous nature activist.
Synopsis:
The universal spread of civilization has encompassed the wildness of California. While some of the original ecosystems have been preserved, others have been reduced to tattered remnants. Rich and varied habitats, with their plants and animals, are gone forever, destroyed by the conversion of valley lands to agriculture, the damming of streams, the cutting of forests, the paving of meadows. Wild California makes a persuasive argument for identifying and protecting areas of unspoiled California before they disappear.
This is a stunning photographic guide to the six major California regions--from the Sierra Nevada to the desert--and their wildlife. To A. Starker Leopold, conservationist, naturalist, wildlife biologist, and educator, the delicate balance between plants, animals, and humans in each community is precious and fragile. In a highly readable style that mingles authority and eloquence, Leopold reminds us of th aesthetic, educational, and scientific values of undeveloped land.
Tupper Ansel Blake, naturalist and wildlife photographer, has contributed one hundred color images that marvelously convey the special beauties of this state.
Fortunately, the rich legacy of early California can still be found, and Tupper Blake's images with Starker Leopold's words are powerful evidence that this wilderness is worth preserving for future generations.
About the Author:
A. Starker Leopold was Professor of Zoology and Forestry at the University of California, Berkeley. By the time of his death in 1983, he had become a leading figure in the study of the land and wildlife, receiving honors for his contributions to biological science, conservation, and education. Both The California Quail...
