First edition fourth printing hardcover with no dust jacket, volume 1 of 2. 958 pp. A large chronological survey of fashion from the Babylonians through the 19th century. Chapters include; The Ancient Orient, Romans and Barbarians, The Dark Ages, Knighthood in Flower, The Renaissance among others. Illustrated in black and white. A great reference book for fashion, costume and jewelry designers as well as a picture dealer needing to identify the age of a painting by the costumes. Pictures clothing, shoes and even accessories.
