1946 Heritage edition of the translation prepared at Cambridge in 1611 for King James I with a preface by Mary Ellen Chase.
The story of Job from the Old Testament has fascinated scholars, poets and readers for centuries. Using the text of the King James version, Polish-Jewish artist Arthur Szyk brings fascinating new life to this biblical tale with eight intricately detailed color plates. Szyk’s style, reminiscent of medieval painting and illuminated manuscripts, is the perfect fit for this story. Returning to his religious roots for the first time since his celebrated Haggadah, and after his propaganda artwork supporting the allies during the second World War, Szyk would continue working on bible stories for the rest of his life, producing versions of The Book of Ruth, The Ten Commandments, The Story of Joseph and his Brothers, and The Book of Esther in the years after the publication of this volume.
