About the Item
CHRISTO
JEANNE-CLAUDE (1935-2020)(1935-2009) Christo
Jeanne-Claude 75, 2010, by Taschen. Biographical book retracing the complete work of Christo and Jeanne Claude's projects up to 2010. Sold in its canvas box. Signed and numbered 33/1100. It was designed by Christo himself and was conceived originally to mark Christo and Jeanne-Claude's 75th birthdays, it features hundreds of previously unpublished photographs, drawings and plans, a detailed history, and in-depth interviews, including Jeanne-Claude's final public conversation about her work, who died in 2009, a year before publication. The duo is perhaps best remembered for wrapping architecture and natural elements in fabric, such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris or The Gates in New York's Central Park. Photographs throughout the book are by Wolfgang Volz, many full page.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Wrapped Trees. Basel 1997–1998. Signed Book

Fondation Beyeler and Berower Park, Riehen, Basel, Switzerland, 1997-1998
In Autumn 1998, after the trees around Fondation Beyeler and in the Berower Park had shed their leaves, Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrapped 162 trees—some up to 25 meters high—with 55,000 square meters of polyester fabric and 23 kilometers of rope. The effect of light and weather on the translucent material created a kind of amorphous sculptural choreography, an ever-changing variety of shapes, surfaces, and colors. The fabric, used every winter in Japan to protect trees from frost and heavy snow, lent the trees the appearance of precious and fragile objects.
The Fondation Beyeler project was a pièce de résistance for Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and an extension and expansion of many years of interest in the concept of wrapped trees...

Christo and More SMS A Collection of Multiples 'William N. Copley, 1968'
S.M.S. is an art collection in a box that was available by subscription in 1968. Through February and December, subscribers were mailed six issues containing assorted works of art curated by William N. Copley. The portfolios consist of “original reproductions" by 73 artists including William Copley, Christo, Marcel Duchamp, Roy Lichtenstein, Joseph Kosuth, Walter de Maria, Yoko Ono, Lawrence Weiner, Richard Artschwager, Man Ray, Bruce Nauman, John Cage, Terry Riley and more.
S.M.S. included renowned and unknown artists side by side. As form of protest against galleries, S.M.S. made contemporary art affordable and accessible at a modest price of $125.00 per subscription. The portfolios are all kept in their original display covers.
