About the Item

Rare and complete set of “40 years of Danish Furniture Design” first edition book collection — The Copenhagen Cabinet-makers’ Guild Exhibitions. Compiled and edited by the Danish female architect Grete Jalk and first published in 1987. This is a major reference work - not just for the history of modern Danish furniture design and the design of homes but these volumes are also a record of social history - recording much about how Danish families lived or wanted to live through that period of massive changes in the middle of the 20th century - and the volumes indicate much about Danish business and the way that Danish design, through this period, was marketed. Known as the holy bible and a must-have for the collector or the passionated furniture enthusiast. The books have recently been reprinted in a new edition, but the quality of the first edition is superior in quality.

Modern Danish Furniture by Esbjorn Hiort (Book)
Located in North Yorkshire, GB
Modern Danish Furniture is the third volume of a series of books on modern Danish applied art. This volume, like the earlier ones, is edited by the Danish architect Esbjorn Hiort, M.A.A., who has written the introduction. While Danish silver and Danish ceramics have long been well known and in great demand in foreign countries - especially among collectors - it has only been during the past ten years or so that Danish furniture has gained an international reputation. In his introduction, the author describes the modern development in this field, explains the reasons for the high artistic and technical standard of Danish furniture, and points out the characteristic details of the work of the leading Danish furniture designers. In the picture section there are numerous illustrations of unique pieces of the cabinet-maker's art as well as of fine examples of Danish commercial furniture...
