About the Item

David Gill Designing Art By: David Gill Introduction by Meredith Etherington-Smith David Gill reveals the famed gallerist’s opinions of and influence on the world of art and design; he presents the works of artists, sculptors, and designers he has discovered and nurtured, among them Donald Judd, Mattia Bonetti, Zaha Hadid, Grayson Perry, Barnaby Barford, Fredrikson Stallard, Jorge Pardo, and the Campana brothers. Structured chronologically, and divided by location, the book includes never-before-seen photographs of Gill’s galleries, his award-winning exhibitions, and the private collections in his own homes: a converted handbag factory south of the River Thames; the eighteenth-century Albany apartments in London’s Mayfair; and his latest home, a restored palazzo in Malta’s Valetta. Seen throughout are the designs of the many world-famous artists he has represented over his quarter of a century at the forefront of the contemporary art and design world. The book also features a selection of his curated interiors and never-before-published glimpses of the private collections and homes of the numerous internationally renowned collectors with whom Gill regularly collaborates. This book is an extraordinary visual document of one man’s journey through historic twentieth-century art and design to a new and exciting twenty-first century world. After a stint at auction house Christie’s, David Gill founded his first, eponymous London gallery on the Fulham Road, London, in 1987. The Spanish-born Gill has stealthily shaped the perception and reception of design over the last twenty-five years, pushing names from the worlds of fashion, architecture, and art to the forefront of product and furniture design. Meredith Etherington-Smith is a writer, editor, journalist, curator, and broadcaster who specializes in twentieth- and twenty-first-century fine art, decorative arts, contemporary and historical arts, architecture, and interior design. She was London editor of Paris Vogue, deputy and features editor of Harpers Queen, European editor of Town Country, U.S., and editor, GQ, U.S. Etherington-Smith has written on art and design for magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, L.A. Times, International Herald Tribune, Vogue, Architectural Digest, and House Garden, to name but a few. She has researched and written the TV documentaries The Story of Fashion, The Beauty Queens, and By Design for HBO. Ray Booth: The Expressive Home: Architecture and Interiors
Located in New York, NY
Ray Booth: The Expressive Home: Architecture and Interiors Author Ray Booth, with Judith Nasatir For his second book, Booth, a master of modern elegance, creates homes that are strikingly sophisticated and wonderfully livable at the same time. Booth showcases his innovative and sophisticated modern interiors, which mix a keen sense of tranquility with bold and elegant details, as well as homes renovated inside and out, and houses designed and decorated from the foundations up. Both his exteriors and interiors display a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary elements, resulting in an appealingly timeless aesthetic. This exquisitely designed tome presents his forward-thinking vision. The spectacular projects featured span the country from coast to coast—from a dramatic Los Angeles hillside dwelling with expansive windows to a contemporary Nashville home that marries brick, metal, and wood. For his own Provincetown seaside getaway, he has chosen an unexpected cutting-edge style. These projects show how he pushes the boundaries of design while imbuing spaces with soul. About The Author Architecturally trained designer Ray Booth is a partner of the prestigious McALPINE firm who divides his time between Nashville and New York City. Booth’s work has received national recognition from the most prestigious lifestyle publications, including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and Veranda.
