A picture history of English pottery by Griselda Lewis. London: Hulton Press, 1956. First edition hardcover with no dust jacket. A history of pottery in England with 418 illustrated examples. It includes pieces with a simple crudity and rustic simplicity to pieces of extreme sophistication. The book covers periods from the first Bronze Age to post WWII with an emphasis on the humorous quality of many. There are medieval jugs decorated with comic faces, or a Delft charger with Adam and Eve, humorous figures in chimney pieces and many figurines.
