About the Item

Catalog accompanying an exhibition of modernist chairs by Australia’s pre-eminent postwar furniture designer Grant Featherston (1922-1995), held at the National Gallery of Victoria from 30 March-7 August 1988. Covers Featherston’s output from 1947-1979 and features his iconic Contour series of 1951-1955—radically sleek sculptural forms loosely inspired by the Eames/Saarinen entries in MoMA’s Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition of 1941 and related to contemporary work by Vladimir Kagan. Includes also Featherston’s Pop-influenced designs in fiberglass and Polyurethane from the 1960’s and early 1970’s, including work visually related to that of Pierre Paulin. Edited and written by Terence Lane with additional text by Grant Featherston. 4to (8.25” x 11.75”), pictorial wrappers, 71 pages, b/w photos and illustrations including interior shots and ads.
