Fundamentals of Philately by L.N. Williams. Published by American Philatelic Society, 1990. 1st Ed hardcover. The book includes 2 chapters on general collecting and the remaining 13 chapters cover everything you want to know about postage stamp production. Williams begins by describing paper and watermarks and goes into minute detail of various printing methods. The last 3 chapters cover color, which is always an important aspect of stamp collecting, gum and perforation varieties. This is a good general reference and jumping off point for more specialized study.
