About the Item
This book which was published in 1994 concentrates on the use of "Galuchat" predominantly in the making of furniture and other luxury household items in the 20th century - particularly the Art Dec era, when such notable designers as Jean-Michel Frank, Andre Groult, Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann and Clement Rousseau used it to decorate their furniture designs.
Galuchat or Shagreen has been used for many centuries for decoration and was widely used in Asia and the Far East on fancy leather goods including the scabbards for swords and daggers and for small cases such as those for reading glasses.
Traditionally made from the rough skin from Sharks or Rays, but in modern times from farmed fish.
183 pages, with text in French - beautifully illustrated with colour photographs.
