The Gentle Art of Faking Furniture by Herbert Cescinsky. New York: Dover Publications, Inc., 1967. Unabridged and unaltered re-publication edition from original published in 1931, soft cover. 168 pp. An illustrated historical study detailing ways of identifying fake English furniture. The book is written by one of Britian's foremost experts on the subject, providing vast professional knowledge about furniture. He points out that the only real defense against the skillful fake is a very broad knowledge of genuine antiques. He moves chronologically through the development of English furniture and tells the reader what to look for in spotting the fake, including information on wear and tear, tool marks and wood types. A great guide for any type of furniture.
