DESCRIPTION: INSCRIBED BY RICHARD HENRY DANA. 1 vol., inscribed on the second blank endleaf "Dr. Charles H. (Hinckley) Wetmore from his much indebted friend Rich. H. Dana Jr. Nov. 1859 Author of 2 yrs before the mast", bound in the publisher's original blind stamped pebble grained brown cloth, gilt lettered spine.
CONDITION: Some mild toning to pages, hinges fine, head and foot of spine fine, A GOOD COPY with an interesting inscription with ties to two New England authors.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., father of Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., had a connection with Richard Henry Dana Jr. They were schoolmates at a school in Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, when Holmes Sr. was ten years old.
While there is no known connection between Dr. Wetmore and Dana perhaps at some point Dana had needed his services and inscribed this copy as a thank you.
