About the Item

Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of the works of Jean Royere held at the Jacques Lacoste Gallery in Paris from 25 May-2 July 1999. Lacoste was, and is, a passionate collector and proponent of Royere’s exuberant and sensual oeuvre; this 1999 exhibition showcasing Lacoste’s collection was a high point in the rediscovery of the designer’s mid-century canon. Organized around lighting designs, seating, and tables, the exhibition included such now-iconic designs such as the lamps Antibes, Sphere, Jet d’eau, Peking, and Liane, the appliqués Neron, Serpentines, and Hirondelles, the seating Ours Polaire, Oeuf, Sculpture, and Elephanteau; and the tables Sphere, Tour Eiffel, and Gigogne. In addition to dramatically-lit, full page color photographs of individual designs, the catalog contains in situ b/w photographs and interior sketches. Curatorial information for most entries includes name of design, date of creation, materials, dimensions, provenance, and bibliography. Square 8vo (9” x 9”), hardcover with printed dust jacket, 115 pages with color and b/w illustrations. Text in French with introductory remarks by Jacques Lacoste and Alan Grizot. Scarce.
