Catalog published by the University of Michigan Museum of Art and D.A.P (Distributed Art Publishers) in conjunction with the exhibition Kara Walker: An Abbreviated Emancipation held at the University of Michigan Museum of Art from March 9-May 26, 2002. Edited by Annette Dixon with essays by Robert F. Reid-Pharr and Dixon and a dialogue between the artist and Thelma Golden. 4to (10.25’ × 12.25”), cloth boards with pictorial dust jacket, 100 pages with biography and select bibliography at end. Fully illustrated with images of artworks and installation shots in color and b/w. First edition, second impression inscribed by Kara Walker on the half-title page to the graphic designer David Leigh. NF boards. Minor rubbing and bumping to dj. With an invitation card to the 2003 Kara Walker exhibition Narratives of a Negress laid in.
