Capturing the arts and culture of La Jolla in the 1960's this publication is illustrated throughout with photographs of La Jolla California by John Waggaman. The photographer was later based in New York city but but his "Portraits of Artists" was published by the La Jolla Museum of Art and accompanied an exhibition of the same name.
Author and journalist James Britton founded, edited and published the California Review from 1963-65. Britton won an American Institute of Architect's (AIA) journalistic prize in 1959. In the text he applies the theories of famous academic Lewis Mumford's to the development of La Jolla.
