London Interiors, from the Archives of Country Life by John Cornforth by John Cornforth. London: Aurum Press Limited. First edition hardcover with dust jacket, 2000. 192 pp. A photographic archive of the past century by the magazine "Country Life" of houses as they were in the past. It covers artists in Holland Park studios to great political hostesses in their park lane mansions and in Art Deco flats. The book visits great 18th century houses of the aristocracy, from the Rococo interiors of Norfolk House or Chesterfield House to the Gothic Pomfret Castle. Other houses are seen at key moments in their history: Robert Adam's home when it was occupied by Samuel Courtauld and his celebrated collection of Impressionist masterpieces and the classical interiors of Dorchester House.
