About the Item
A LOS TOROS by Daniel Perea. Barcelona. Hermenegildo Miralles, 1900. Beautifully bound in a scarlet pictorial gilt decorated covers, with a large lace fan covered with bullfighting motifs and flowers. In the beginning, there are four pages devoted to the song, "The March of the Monoleria," and its musical notation is decorated with colorful vignette illustrations relating in one way or another to the bullfight. The 28 plates depict every aspect of bullfighting, from the bulls in the pastures to the final dragging of the bull from the arena. Each plate has a brief caption and description. Text is in Spanish, French, German and English. The plates are signed "D. Perea." Daniel Perea Y Rojas (1834 - 1909) was active/lived in Spain. He was best known for his bull fighting paintings. With a hand written excerpt from the long, narrative poem by Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. A rare and hard to find book.
