About the Item
A rare 1976 book with 6 aquatint engravings "Sarcófagos de Sennedjem" by Mexican artist Luis López Loza. Printed by López Loza's workshop in november 1976. This is the number 15 of a series of 30 books. Printed on Arches paper, signed and dated Dic 27, 76 on preliminary blank by the artist. Hardcover, accordion bound in yellow paper boards.
The 6 aquatint etchings show different perspectives of the Sarcophagus of Sennedjem, a 19th Dynasty Ancient Egypt artisan who served under the reign of Seti I and Ramesses II. His tomb was discovered on January 31, 1886 in the necropolis of Deir el-Medina, near Luxor. López Loza depicts designs that recall organs and bones rendered abstractly, as if the spectator could see through the sarcophagus' lid.
Luis López Loza was born in 1939 in Mexico City. He is a member of the Breakaway Generation (Generación de la Ruptura) of Mexican art. An abstract painter and sculptor with a very important career as a printmaker, López Loza studied at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" and the Pratt Graphic Art Center in New York. He lives and works in Valle de Bravo.
