About the Item
The chair, perhaps more than any other single object, epitomizes the styles of a given period. For that reason we have chosen to highlight chair design in our exhibition. The exhibit and catalogue provide the opportunity for the public to view important works by the most notable figures, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, as well as work by such influential designers as Peter Behrens, Richard Riemer-Schmid, and Carlo Mollino. Their distinctive aesthetics, rarely seen in this country, played an important role in the formation of a modernist conscience. This exhibit also introduces the new annex to our gallery, where a portion of this show is housed. In the future, this space will display our collection of furniture, objects, and architectural drawings from this century. 95 pages. 495 grams.
