The Magnificent Builders and Their Dream Houses by Joseph Thorndike. New York, American Heritage Publishing Co. Inc., 1978. First Edition hardcover with dust jacket. An intimate look at the most fantastic private homes in the world. With very good descriptions of the houses, palaces, chateaux, as well as old Roman imperial villas, a modern cave home, a luxury Pullman railroad car, and even a 1930s yacht. It includes contemporary unusual 20th century homes by architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and others. Most of the structures are in the US or Europe but a couple are in India and Persia.
