About the Item

New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company Inc., 1959. First Edition. 8vo, 8 3/ 8 x 5 5/8 inches (213 x 140 mm); (5), 311, (1) pp. Original cloth-backed speckled paper boards with white spine titles. Pages are clean and unmarked, very lightly and evenly toned.; head a d tail of spine lightly rubbed. Dust jacket is a little browned on the edges and shows a little wear at the head and tail of spine panel, with minor losses there and at corners. Rare in its original dust jacket with just a few flaws, this cold-war thriller set in the early 1950's dealt with the anti-Communist hysteria in U.S. politics. It was the basis for the notable United Artists 1962 film directed by John Frankenheimer that stars Frank Sinatra as Ben Marco, Laurence Harvey as Raymond Shaw, Janet Leigh as Eugenie Rose Cheney, and Angela Lansbury as Eleanor Shaw Iselin. The movie was remade in 2004, with the story reworked; directed by Jonathan Demme, it stars Denzel Washington as Bennett Marco, Liev Schreiber as Raymond Shaw, Jon Voight as U.S. Senator Tom Jordan, and Meryl Streep as Eleanor Prentiss Shaw. Condition: Near fine in a Very good+ dust jacket.
