Paintings of the high Renaissance in Rome and Florence by Sydney Freedberg. Harvard University Press, 1961. two volume set 1st Ed hardcovers with dust jackets. Volume 1 is 644 pp. of text, all the 700 b/w illustrations are contained in volume 2 which has 514 pp. "These two volumes constitute a study of virtually the whole extent of painting of the High Renaissance in Rome and Florence the richest concentration in time and place of master accomplishments of Italian art. The author deals at length with the major figures: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Fra Bartolommeo, Sebastiano del Piombo, and Peruzzi. An analyses of individual works of art and considerations of individual personalities."
