Discovering the secrets of soft-paste porcelain at The Saint-Cloud Manufactory ca 1690-1766. North Haven: Yale University Press, 1999. First edition hardcover with dust jacket. 303 pp. A beautiful catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name held at The Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, New York, from July 15 to October 24. 1999. The Saint-Cloud Manufactory in France was the first in Europe to discover the secret of producing soft-paste porcelain, a process that only was known at the time in China and Japan. The book celebrates France's contributions tho the decorative arts and culture of Europe and included 216 examples of Saint-Cloud porcelain, along with Faience and porcelain from other centers in France, Europe, and China.
