What happens when Emmanuel Bréon, Chief Curator of the Museum of the 1930s in Boulogne-Billancourt, and David Caméo, Director of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, come up with a project to explore their respective cities' ceramic heritage?
They decided to show them in a joint exhibition and a book. The book writing was given to Florence Slitine, project manager at The Manufacture. With the help of collectors and several museums that lend their pieces and share their knowledge, this is the first book to take stock of the work of these artists. From the end of the 19th century to the 1960s, industrial ceramic artists worked in Boulogne-Billancourt and the town of Sèvres, on the outskirts of the famous Manufacture's production.
It enables them to restore, within their geographical context, the work of leading artists, to discover ceramists previously unknown, and to assess the production carried out in Sèvres but outside the National Manufacture.
This book publishes previously unpublished works, marks, and documents that will fascinate lovers of modern ceramics.
It contains entries relating to the following 25 artists: Paul Beyer, Berthe Cazin, Collinot and Cie, Albert Dammouse, Edouard Dammouse, Taxile Doat, Roger Dollé, Fau and Guillard, Maurice Gensoli, Gentil and Bourdet, Marcel Giberot, Keramos, Frédéric Kiefer, Raoul Lachenal, Jean Mayodon, M.F. ceramic workshops, Milet factory, Jacques Ponchelet and Abel Léger, Robj, Georges Serré, Vinsare new earthenware factory, Amalric Walter.
