First Edition hardcover with dust jacket. 264 pp. A beautifully photographed book on the history of steps and stairways beginning with notched tree trunks and including examples in every architectural style and material. Early examples shown are the steep steps on Mayan temples that signify a passage to their gods. The Spanish Steps in Rome and the steps of the Great Wall of China show examples of spectacular scale and location. The book also gives examples of steps in art and entertainment. A great resource book for architects and designers.
