About the Item

Süe et Mare et la Compagnie des arts français Florence Camard Paris, Les Éditions de l'Amateur, 1993. Forewords by Marcelin and Olivier Süe, and Michel Mare Louis Süe and André Mare, two names inextricably linked to decorative art. Together, they founded the Compagnie des Arts Français in 1919, a close collaboration that lasted until 1927 and gave rise to furniture with inviting shapes and powerful curves. Although they remained faithful to the Art Deco style, their designs were rather conventional, drawing on Louis XIV and earlier eras and placing less emphasis on geometric complexity. Their pieces were highly decorative and featured details such as sculptural floral and fruit motifs, scalloped edges, and ivory and mother-of-pearl inlays.
