Monograph on the Timo Sarpaneva collection at Designmuseo, Helsinki, a part of the Finnish Museum of Art and Design, published by the Museum in 2002. Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was a Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator whose work in glass, metal, wood, porcelain, and textiles earned him recognition as one of the great designers of the twentieth century. His glass oeuvre for Nuutajarvi and Iittala, in particular, was renowned for its merging of artistic and utilitarian elements, with his 1954 Orchid vase deemed “the most beautiful object of the year” by American Magazine House Beautiful. 4to (8 3/8” x 10”), pictorial wrappers, 120 pages, b/w and color illustrations throughout. Text by Marianne Aav and Timo Sarpaneva in Finnish and English. Includes a biographical essay on Sarpaneva, an illustrated timeline of his designs in glass, metal, textile, and plastic, and photographs of installations and individual products
