Mortimer Menpes (1855 – 1938) was an Australian-born painter, author, printmaker and illustrator who traveled widely and lived in England since his 20s. In 1880, during a sketching tour in Brittany, he befriended, and became a "disciple" of James McNeill Whistler. Menpes traveled widely and often returned from his travels to mount exhibitions of his work.
This charming book features 100 works by Menpes, recording famous views as well as more intimate corners of the city on the lagoon. It is accompanied by a text written by his daughter, Dorothy Menpes, who was Whistler's godchild.
