About the Item

This fabulous dress clip is iconic of Depression-era jewelry. The 1930's clip brooch was one of the most versatile jewels ever invented, for the variety of ways in which the clip brooch could be worn enable a woman to achieve manifold effects with a single jewel. The materials of this pin are also of the era as potmetal and rhinestones replaced silver and diamonds due to economic necessity. The motif of this clip, the bow, exemplifies the shift in fashion from the sexless geometric forms of the twenties to more curvaceous and feminine styles of the thirties. A wonderful piece to add to any collection! "The jewel has become essential to the dress, an integral part of it. Clips are placed at the base of the shoulder-straps; at the hallow of a drapery; at the end of a back decolletage. The Jewel is an architectural motif". -Vogue, March 15 1935.
