About the Item
Circa 1950. We offer this silver brooch adorned with turquoise and amethyst. Designed by Matilde Poulat Signed on back MATL.
The MATL silver workshop, founded in 1934, has a historical tradition steeped in the artistic culture of Mexico; each of its pieces is handcrafted using the techniques of edging and chiseling, maintaining an aesthetic that mixes baroque elements with pre-Hispanic lines and figures that evoke a national identity and highlight the essence of what is Mexican.
Its origins began with the hand of Doña Matilde Poulat and Don Ricardo Salas Poulat, who created emblematic jewelry that today represents a treasure for the design and history of our country, such is the case of the famous “Paralelo Azteca” ring that originally belonged to Frida Kahlo; and that can be appreciated as a main element that adorns the image of the painter in a portrait made by Diego Rivera to the art collector Natasha Gelman.
