Audrey Werner has always been interested in the different ways people around the world, and throughout history, have adorned themselves. As a child, she would make jewelry from everything she could find-from beads to rocks, wire, and seeds. In 1992 she enrolled in classes at FIT with an eye toward expanding her knowledge of metal, and, from this point onward, was hooked. Later that same year, she landed an apprenticeship with the jeweler Gregg Wolf. Werner soon became his assistant, a position she would hold for the next two years while establishing her own practice. This vintage stunning, signed and rare Tiffany & Co. sterling silver and 18-karat gold pen was designed by Jean Michel Schlumberger in the 1970s. He was a French jewelry designer well known for his work with Tiffany & Co. It is hallmarked "Schlumberger T.&C. 725" His designs were a remarkable form of whimsy and interruptions of natural forms. Much of his inspiration came from sea creatures, animals and nature. This is reminiscent of a form of cactus perhaps. It has dimension and testure. It has been quoted that the late great Diana Vreeland wrote and expressed that Schlumberger appreciates the miracle of jewels and that this was a doorway to his dreams.
