About the Item

This collection of three mid-century bow ties features one butterfly bow tie with wide wings, one oversized butterfly bow tie and one narrow bow tie. The first bow tie features a madras style green and red plaid. The second tie features a orange and two toned blue striped motif on bias. The third tie features a geometric gingham pattern with a red, white yellow and teal color motif. The bow ties are all tied and sewn into position and attached to clip on toggles. This "clip on" style bow tie was an accommodation for the busy mid century business man "To its devotees the bow tie suggests iconoclasm of an Old World sort, a fusty adherence to a contrarian point of view. The bow tie hints at intellectualism, real or feigned, and sometimes suggests technical acumen, perhaps because it is so hard to tie. Bow ties are worn by magicians, country doctors, lawyers and professors and by people hoping to look like the above.
