About the Item

Walking stick: jeweled walking stick, octagonal milord-shaped knob in 18 kt gold with on the top a large central octagonal gold-bearing quartz and 8 oval lateral ones in different colors. Malacca wood cane. Metal tip This is a presentation stick to the owner, which began to appear on the market at the time of the California gold rush, from 1848-1868. They were generally made in two types, one with a knob with a single quartz, the other with more stones in addition to the sides of the knob, as in our case. They all reveal great refinement and a high degree of craftsmanship and have in common a quartz stone with visible veins of gold. They embody the peculiar American taste of the second half of the nineteenth century, with an exclusive quality and have never been mass-produced. This type of knob shows detail and harmony of design such as the typical rich and intricate decorative engraving of the second half of the 20th century. United States of America circa 1850.
