About the Item
Mid 20th Century Silver and Abalone Brooch – c.1950
A nicely made mid-century brooch set with an oval abalone shell, mounted in a hand-tooled silver frame with scalloped edge and twisted border.
Marked to the reverse with rubbed "SIL" stamp, indicating silver. Probably of Mexican or other international origin, circa 1950s–70s.
The abalone shell displays strong natural colour with iridescent blue, green and violet tones. Age-related surface wear and patina to the metal. Original pin and clasp in working order.
