About the Item
A modernist 1970's Taxco, México Sterling Silver with Niello finish and a tiger's eye cabuchon brooch by Sigifredo Pineda. The curved 2-layer design is in clear silver finish in front and with niello on the back. The 15 x 11 mm tiger's eye oval cabuchon can be seen in the middle. The back is sealed with the jeweler's mark, the "36" eagle mark associated to his workshop, the HECHO EN MÉXICO seal and the model number 207.
Weight: 27 g.
Sigifredo "Sigi" Pineda (1929 - 2018) was born in Taxco. By age 10, he was an apprentice at a small filigree silver workshop. A nephew of Antonio Castillo, he worked as a silversmith for the Los Castillo workshop for three years. He also worked for Margot de Taxco doing enamel for four years. In 1952, he founded his own workshop.
