About the Item
A fine set of three Arts
Crafts Ruskin mounted metal brooches probably dating from the early 20th century, one with date marks for 1918. The brooches comprise of a large round example set in a simple silver marked surround mounted with a high fired turquoise and blue glazed roundel with a slightly sprung pin. The reverse of the roundel impressed RUSKIN. The second is of square form and is mounted with a square high fired turquoise and green glazed panel set within an ornate metal surround, possibly silver. The third by Shrimpton
Co has a blue glazed Ruskin mounted in an ornate metal surround and is marked Platondor (alloy produced as an alternative to platinum) and bears a registration mark for 1918. The brooches all vary in size, and we have included dimensions of the largest piece.
The largest brooch has some wear to the surround with a possible repair to the pin loop. The others are in good condition with age wear.
Provenance: From a wonderful and choice collection of small cabinet pieces many of which we are currently offering on 1stdibs. Acquired in the UK Art Market.
